Over 1,500 illegal short-term rental listings in B.C. targeted as registry gets set to launch

69% Informative
New restrictions on short-term rentals were put in place last May .
Owners of 1,500 units have been informed they are not in compliance, B.C. Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon said.
About 1,300 of the non-compliant cases stemmed from public complaints.
Critics have slammed the “unintended consequences” of the restrictions.
Kahlon says there are still thousands of Airbnbs in operation legally across the province.
The primary goal is to create more housing stock, not just take away opportunities for short-term rental owners.
Kahlon : "My message to folks is we want to make sure that there’s availability for them to rent. They still can.".
