Trump administration moves to begin cutting all federal DEI staff

68% Informative
The White House has ordered that all federal diversity, equity and inclusion staff be put on paid leave and eventually be laid off.
The move follows an executive order Trump signed on his first day ordering a sweeping dismantling of the federal government’s diversity and inclusion programs.
Trump has called the programs “discrimination” and insisted on restoring strictly “merit-based” hiring.
The executive order on affirmative action revokes an order issued by President Lyndon Johnson .
It's not clear whether the Trump administration will target every initiative that stemmed from Biden ’s DEI executive order.
It took three years for the Biden administration to issue the final regulations, and Trump would have to embark on a similar rule-making process to rescind it.
Despite the sweeping language of the order, “the reality of implementing such massive structural changes is far more complex”.
