Donald Trump’s threats of slapping a 25 per cent tariff on all Canadian products — and the possibility of counter-tariffs — are already creating unease.
Many Albertans rely on the massive U.S. market, selling their products south of the 49th parallel and also buying inputs from American suppliers.
In December , 163,000 Albertans worked in manufacturing, up 13 per cent from a year earlier .
There are roughly 5,000 manufacturers in the province that exported almost $50 billion worth of value-added goods.
U.S. customers are likely to stock up on Canadian goods that could be affected by any levies, report says.
However, uncertainty about the future could lead Canadian companies to pause investments.
RAM Elevators and Lifts constructs about 1,000 lifts and several hundred elevators a year.
If the full 25 per cent tariffs are imposed, expectations of a lower Canadian dollar will help, but only partially.
