Windsor teens who rely on a specialized city bus program to get to and from high school will have to find alternate transportation in September .
The city plans to redistribute those freed-up transit resources, adding nearly 15,000 service hours to existing regular bus routes.
The directors of education for both impacted school boards who previously spoke out against the change remain concerned that students will have a harder time getting to school.
The school bus extras will continue to operate for the rest of this school year .
Mayor Dilkens says eliminating school extras is a recommendation of the Transit Windsor master plan.
“There are no surprises on the transit front,” he said. “Just trying to be the reasonable person here — we want to get out of the school extra service, put 15,000 new hours of service into your transit system, and give the school boards seven months notice to work on an alternate solution.
