Bioengineer Lukasz Bugaj and his team at the University of Pennsylvania developed a protein called Melt , which can be toggled by temperature.

They modified BcLOV4 into a new protein that acts as a temperature-sensitive tool.

The team believes Melt could aid in key discoveries in cancer treatments that are more targeted.

"Further down the line, these tools could pave the way for new types of cell therapies that respond to physiological cues like fever or inflammation," says Bugaj .

Bugaj says the tools could be used to develop new cell therapies for fever, inflammation and fever-causing treatments.
