City prepares for final homecoming of 'amazing' Vietnam POW – held for more than 6 years

Navy Capt. Richard Stratton died Jan. 18 in Florida at age 93 after dealing with cancer for the past year .
Stratton , a Vietnam War hero and former POW, was one of the longest-held captives in that war.
He was a classmate at North Quincy High School of then Mayor Walter Hannon .
"He had a humility and a toughness," Mayor Thomas Koch said.
Alice Stratton also was a licensed social worker. She had become very active in the movement to find a way to have the POWs in Vietnam released. She later was appointed by President Ronald Reagan as the first deputy assistant secretary of the Navy for personnel and families in the 1980s , Mayor Koch said.
