The term appeared early Wednesday in a forecast product known as a convective outlook, released periodically every day by the Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman , Oklahoma .
It came little more than a week after President Donald Trump issued an executive order to rename the Gulf of America .
It is not yet policy for Weather Service and other agencies to use the term.
“I’m certainly not going to follow some American exceptionalism edict that we have a claim on that name,” Morales says.
The Geographic Names Information System’s entry for the Gulf of Mexico included more than two dozen past alternate names.
