Edmonton remains top city for opioid-related deaths despite downward-trending numbers in Alberta

Alberta recorded 964 opioid-related deaths from January to October 2024 .
Alberta has had a 38 per cent reduction in deaths between 2023 and 2024 .
Of the 964 reported deaths, 688 were from acute accidental drug poisoning — 95 per cent involved fentanyl.
The province said it will be building another recovery community in Edmonton to meet the demand.
