The Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) will soon cease to exist, after members voted unanimously last Friday to wind down the entity’s operations.

The decision comes three months after the Alberta government announced it would no longer contribute $1 million in yearly funding to the CMRB and would make membership of the regional planning group voluntary.

Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek said the loss of funding and transition to non-mandatory membership put the organization in “purgatory”.
