Tackling wildfires before they arrive: Mitigation efforts underway in Banff, Lake Louise

73% Informative
The Town of Banff is working alongside Parks Canada to protect people, homes, businesses and infrastructure from wildfires.
“Wildfires aren’t preventable, but we can help mitigate the risk,” said Canmore’s deputy fire chief of prevention and community risk reduction.
The Lake Louise community fire guard and Tunnel Toe wildfire risk reduction projects are currently underway.
Banff’s fire chief said the town has been doing its own mitigation work since 2004 .
Tree and vegetation management will also create a 1.5-metre non-combustible zone near critical infrastructure.
“If anything, what we’ve learned is the importance of working together,” said Bourgon , adding that the tragedy in Jasper has also affected their community indirectly.
