NASA 's Chandra X-ray Observatory has captured the most detailed image ever of the great star-forming nebula 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
Chandra 's previous effort amounted to about 1.3 days' worth of exposures, whereas this new image accounts for 23 days of observations.
The nebula is huge, spanning 650 light-years in diameter.
At the heart of the cluster is a dense concentration of stars called R136 , the most massive star known in the universe.
