F-35 EOTS combines FLIR, IRST, laser tracking, and other sensors into one unit
78% Informative
Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) merges forward-looking infrared (FLIR) and infrared search and track (IRST) functionality into one unit.
EOTS offers infrared imaging for detecting and tracking targets, laser designation for guiding precision munitions, and various other features to reduce pilot workload without adding external pods or large protrusions to the jet.
The F-35 Lightning II is a single-seat, single-engine stealth aircraft used by multiple branches of the US armed forces.
The remarkable stick rate exceeding 96% indicates that EOTS units integrate into the aircraft without requiring rework with nearly zero failures.
Developers expect total lifecycle cost savings to exceed $1 billion , partly due to improved reliability and simpler sustainment.
Lockheed Martin has already developed an advanced EOTS variant (A-EOTS) for the F-35 Lightning II .
