Premier David Eby says the grocery rebate was sacrificed to the threat of tariffs from the U.S. The premier also shelved a tax cut for middle-income British Columbians .

Eby said the March 4 provincial budget will project little growth if any.

The premier faced several questions about the wartime rhetoric in the Throne Speech, multiple references to the Second World War , Nazis and the fight against fascism.

“I have to say I understand the sentiment that resulted in the election of Mr. Trump — that people felt that they can’t afford things, that they feel frustrated about how long it takes to get stuff built, all those things. These are things that we’re working on in British Columbia as well,” said Eby .
