A security vulnerability exposes the personal data of millions of people who have the apps unwittingly installed on their devices.
Cocospy and Spyic are two different branded mobile stalkerware apps that share largely the same source code.
The bug allows anyone to access the email addresses of the people who signed up to the apps with the intention of planting the app on someone’s device to covertly monitor them.
The operators of the apps did not return to TechCrunch 's request for comment.

They appear to evade detection by blending in with Android ’s built-in apps.
A network analysis tool watched data flowing in and out of the app to understand how the spyware operations work.
