Two federal government properties in San Francisco's Mid-Market and Civic Center neighborhoods could be on the chopping block.

Internal U.S. General Administration Services document has identified two federal properties in the city as “non-core” assets earmarked for potential sale.

The GSA has been directed to sell off more than 500 of the roughly 1,500 federally owned buildings across the country.

Overall downtown office vacancy hit 37% last year , but the Mid-Market area posted a vacancy rate of nearly 50% .

The GSA building on Seventh Street can accommodate approximately 2,000 employees.

It currently houses offices for Pelosi , the Social Security Administration , the Department of Transportation, Department of Labor and Department of Health and Human Services .
