The Christian Democratic Union ( CDU ) and its sister party the Christian Social Union ( CSU ) look set to return to power following the German federal election on Sunday .

The CDU-CSU won 28.6% of votes, with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) coming in second place with 20.8% and the center-left Social Democratic Party ( SPD ) in third with 16.4% of the vote.
