Prince George-based oil refinery Tidewater Renewables has been calling for the province to close a loophole.

The loophole allows U.S. biodiesel producers to benefit from the province’s low fuel standard.

Starting Jan. 1, 2026 , the provincial standard for gas and diesel will be required to be met with Canadian -made fuel.

The province is also boosting the percentage of diesel that must be renewable from 4% to 8% .
