Calgary's new housing chief downplays opposition to blanket rezoning

69% Informative
Reid Hendry is the first person to be solely dedicated to guiding housing efforts in Calgary .
Hendry says those against easing zoning to allow greater density are a small minority in a city that desperately needs more affordable housing.
He says Calgary is failing too many citizens who can’t find affordable lodging.
The move changes the zoning designation for 311,750 properties to allow for more dense housing types.
A plaintiff in the ongoing court challenge to blanket rezoning calls Hendry 's comments “stupid’s comments stupid,” insisting opponents have good reason to fear the policy.
Robert Lehodey says the issue could prove decisive in the upcoming civic election in October .
He expects the Alberta Court of Appeal to hear the case late in 2025 or early 2026 .
