Man who forced homeless Edmonton woman into sex trade sentenced to 5 1/2 years

Christopher Becks , 39 , sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison for coercing two women into the sex trade.
Becks pleaded guilty to five offences involving two women last year .
With credit for time in pretrial custody, the one -time Ponoka resident — known on the street as “Bear” — has around three years left to serve.
Crown prosecutor Jim Stewart called sex trafficking “a horrific blight on our society”.
Becks was also handed a weapons prohibition and an order to register with the Sex Offender Information Registration Act for 20 years .
She awarded him credit for pre-trial custody at the standard 50 per cent markup, giving him 1-1/2 days ’ credit for each of his 468 days behind bars.
