Dr. Andrew Weisman : Daylight saving time disrupts millions of Americans ’ sleep.
He says sleep deprivation costs an estimated US$411 billion annually in lost productivity and health care costs.
Weisman says teens are the most sleep-deprived age group in the U.S. He says early school start times force teens to wake up before their biological clocks are ready.
To keep our clocks aligned with the natural cycle of the Sun , adopt permanent standard time.
Joanna Fong-Isariyawongse : No country is currently on year-round daylight saving time.
She says DST is undesirable due to public dissatisfaction, safety concerns and negative health effects all three countries attempted it and ultimately reversed course.
There are signs that the U.S. is finally waking up to these problems, she says.
