‘Disrupting our world order’: Strategists talk ‘insidious’ consequences of Trump’s tariff whiplash

David Jolly : Tariff tactics are a guessing game that are that's hurting our allies and American businesses.

Molly Jong Fast : Donald Trump has no idea what he's doing right now.

Molly: This is a dangerous time when uncertainty and stability is ultimately what could ruin this entire economy.

Molly says this is not about what's in the best interests of the American people.

This week 's new round of tariffs invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act , which gives the president broad powers with few checks to deal with, quote, any unusual and extraordinary threat.

Molly Kohn : This is the imperial presidency in action, and it is not surprising. And in fact, it's funny because you see Tom Cole , right from Oklahoma , chair of House Appropriations , saying thank you, Elon , for saving these little bits of government, right? This is Congress 's job. They have given up their power. We are watching it in real time, Kohn says.

John Sutter : How do Democrats respond to that? He says they need to be able to explain what they've seen in the last seven weeks .

He says some Democrats have been able to narrate what's happening to voters.

Sutter says they have to do so because of the lack of a strong, nonpartisan nonpartisan media.
