A rare blood moon is set to grace the skies over the UK on Friday morning .

The moon will appear to glow bright red as Earth 's shadow crosses the lunar surface.

North and South America will get the best views of the eclipse, but British space fans should still be able to catch a glimpse in the early morning.

There is no need to worry since lunar eclipses happen fairly regularly - occurring anywhere between four and seven times per year according to NASA .

If you do happen to miss this week ’s eclipse the next chance will be on September 7 when a total lunar eclipse will sweep across parts of Asia , Africa , Australia and Europe .

Meanwhile, the United States will need to wait until March 2026 for a total eclipse.
