Changes to watering rules considered, but Calgary no longer proposing seasonal mandatory water restrictions

76% Informative
The city is proposing changes to its water utility, wastewater and stormwater bylaws.
The proposed changes would allow Calgarians to water new trees, shrubs and edible food crops.
Water use for construction and renovation purposes would also be allowed under the new rules.
The changes are to make the rules in effect during watering restrictions more “equitable” for residents and businesses.
Ward 1 Coun . Sonya Sharp called staff’s new recommendations baby steps’ to encourage Calgarians to be mindful of their water use without imposing a blanket restriction.
The recommendations are also earning a thumbs-up from industries that use water in their daily operations.
