In Syria’s Alawite heartland, fears mount after mass killings

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says nearly 1,500 people have been killed in Latakia and Tartus since Thursday .
Alawites say they have no defences other than the General Security forces deployed to the city to prevent attacks on Alawite neighbourhoods such as Zahra by the city’s Sunni majority.
Lebanon reports an influx of 6,000 people across its northern border on Monday .
The Alawite community of Homs has created a list of more than 600 names of those confirmed to have died in the sectarian fighting.
The city was one of the first to rise up against Mr. al-Assad and was under the control of the rebel Free Syrian Army .
