National accessArts Centre has received more than $8.2 million from the federal government to support the construction of a new arts hub for artists living with disabilities.
The new facility will be built alongside the existing Scout’s Hall , which is set to be overhauled to become the Trico Communities Accessible Arts Centre .
NaAC has faced challenges finding a permanent home to support its community of more than 350 artists since the roof of its facility at Fairview Arena collapsed in 2018 .
The city pledged $2.5 million to build a new accessible main entrance, but Ryu said the city delayed releasing the funds, causing project costs to rise to $6 million . Last year , city representatives informed NaAC that it could provide $4.5 million for the initiative, leaving the organization to raise the remaining funds by March 2025 .
