The water table in the area has risen because of a dam that was built in Egypt which has changed the water table for a lot of the Egyptian landscape.

The Pyramid of Hawara is now drowning and there's a rising water table.

Outside the pyramid and technically below it, there is the Labyrinth of Hawra , which was written about in antiquity, probably most famously by Herodotus .

A new technology called Space Born Synthetic Aperture Radar SAR can penetrate desert sands and reveal subsurface features.

The SAR scans showed not just one, but 2 levels underneath the ground at Hawara , the first level being represented here in blue and the second deeper level in red.

The complex is even bigger than originally thought, extending underneath the Hawara pyramid and way out to the north and the sides, not just the area that was previously excavated.
