A24 ’s Opus is a stylish symphony of half -baked ideas.

John Malkovich's dulcet tones are the only thing that comes through clear in the film.

Though Opus’ opening act is full of promise, it gives up any pretense of subtlety as it progresses.

The film does manage to become momentarily captivating once it puts Moretti himself on screen and gives you a taste of what he’s best known for.

But that spell is hard for Opus to maintain as its story starts dropping predictable twists.

Despite its promising start, Opus ends up feeling more concerned with style than substance.
