Confusion, fear in federal workforce as agencies face deadline to plan staff cuts

Thursday is the deadline for agencies to hand their cost-cutting proposals in to the White House and the Office of Personnel Management .

More than 103,000 federal workers have been laid off as part of efforts by Trump and the tech billionaire Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency to reduce spending.

It's unclear whether those plans will be made public or when agencies will implement them.

At NOAA , sources say the agency’s reduction in force plan involves laying off around 1,000 people across the organization.
