Funding bill grants Trump, Musk more control over federal spending

The spending bill that the Senate passed Friday could bolster President Donald Trump ’s push to wrest power away from Congress .
It could give the administration even greater control over the budget as he seeks to shrink the federal government.
Democrats had hoped to use the deadline over government funding to force Republicans to reverse — or at least limit — the Trump administration's unilateral cuts.
But the GOP -written spending bill could give Trump a freer hand to redirect funds as he sees fit.
Sen. Patty Murray published a list of dozens of examples of programs that the measure could allow Trump to change.
For instance, Trump would have “near-absolute” authority over specific Army Corps of Engineers projects.
“It absolutely opens up more flexibility for Trump ,” a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute , a think tank.
