Trump orders Commerce Secretary to investigate copper tariffs to increase U.S. production

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is directed to investigate implementing tariffs on copper imports.

Trump says the U.S. needs to increase domestic production of the material.

Most of America ’s copper imports came from Chile , Canada , and Peru last year .

China leads the world in copper smelting and refining, the order says.
